Our Mission Statement

MRA is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health and quality of life of families living in sub-Saharan Africa. MRA begun operations in Kenya in 2002. Initially, through our Medical Supplies and Equipment Relief program (MS+ER), MRA mainly concentrated on rehabilitating local hospitals by providing medical supplies and technical assistance to improve health and quality of life of Kenyan communities.

Over the years, MRA based in New York City has developed a network of partnerships with US and Kenyan based hospitals, corporations, airlines and a multitude of professionals who volunteer their skills to the organization. Through these partnerships, MRA has sent numerous consignments of medical supplies and equipment to Kenya.

In order to improve the health and economic wellbeing of families in Sub-Saharan Africa, beginning with Kenya, MRA operates a threefold program model:

Medical Supplies and Equipment Relief Program

is designed to meet critical health needs of impoverished communities afflicted with HIV/AIDS in rural Kenya through strengthening the capacity of local healthcare institutions. MRA accomplishes this goal through mobilizing and leveraging resources from governments, communities, hospitals, partners and individuals with an aim of enhancing sustainable and cost-effective approaches to saving lives. To date, MRA estimates that medical supplies and equipment that amount to over $300,000 have been collected in the US and distributed to healthcare institutions throughout Kenya.

Some of the beneficiaries of MRA medical relief supplies and equipment include Friends of Lugullu Hospital in Western Kenya, and in Transmara District, Nkararo Health Clinic, Enoosaen Health Center, Kurangurik Dispensary, Akemo Valley Maternity and Nursing Home, and Kilgoris District Hospital all located in Kenya Rift Valley province.

Goat Hope Project

Our microenterprise project that works with rural households impacted with HIV/AIDS to fight the effects of malnutrition and poverty often characteristic of communities ravaged by this Disease. Goat Hope focuses on enhancing the health and economic outlook of people affected with HIV/AIDS by gifting them with dairy goats that improves their nutrition through goat milk consumption while supplementing the household income through the sale of surplus milk.

Each Goat Hope project usually works with six beneficiary households of people affected with HIV/AIDS, that represents 36 children men and women per community. This project costs $4,000 on average resulting to increased income of over 130% in the first year of the project! Our beneficiaries are often able to rise above the UN defined poverty line before the third year of the project.

In three years the average return on the $4,000 investment is usually $72,000 due to reproduction of the goats and the subsequent nutrition and income outcomes that are realized. Our goal is to gift 100 goats annually that benefit over 200 children, women and men throughout rural Kenya including Transmara, Kilgoris, Kisii and Webuye districts.

Community Health Outreach Program

aims to provide education and evidence-based HIV infection prevention services to communities most impacted with HIV/AIDS. Our single most effective strategy has been to align our program goals with Kenya government's. That is, testing all HIV at risk adults by the end of next year. MRA's voluntary HIV counseling and testing (VCT)campaigns target rural dwellers who are most underserved and have highest risk of mortality when infected due to the conditions of poverty and disease already prevalent in their communities. The challenge has been to sustain our VCT campaigns.

Our Community Health Outreach Program achieves its objectives through organizing health fares, mobile clinics including our ambulance program and medical missions. Our Medical Missions programs are designed to augment Kenya's healthcare expertise with support from US based medical and paramedical professionals. We provide short and long term medical support to Kenyan hospitals which include but not limited to: direct patient treatment and care; medical and paramedic training; community health outreach and administrative support.
